Genie gave her opponent No.11 seed Dominika Cibulkova a tennis masterpiece at the Rogers Cup in Montreal as she won 6-2 6-0 in 73 minutes.
Genie overcame a stomach ailment that started in her doubles match on Tuesday to put on one of her best ever performances on a tennis court against a player who defeated Genie earlier this month in straight sets at Wimbledon.
Composure was a key for Genie throughout the match as she saved the seven break points she faced on her serve throughout the match as she dropped only two games against the world No.9.
In the on-court interview after the match, Genie said: “It feels special playing in Montreal. I don’t get to do it often, so it just makes me extra motivated to play in front of you guys. I love your support!”
In Thursday’s third round match to be played in the second match of the night session on Central, Genie will play world No.121 Kristina Kucova of Slovakia. Genie has never played the 26-year-old before in WTA competition.
