Genie’s run at the Hobart International was ended by No.7 seed Alize Cornet of France in the final. Genie lost 1-6 2-6 in 67 minutes.
Cornet won the first set 6-1, and Genie took a bathroom break at the beginning of the second set, came back and won two games in a row without dropping a point but was unable to win anymore games as her opponent won six games in a row to take the title.
After the match, Genie said:
“It was a rough day at the office. I didn’t have the energy and emotional control as I need too, to be able to perform well. I woke up and had personal family issues at home and things like that, and I couldn’t keep my focus. As soon as things started going down hill, I really couldn’t keep my emotions together.”
