Genie started her Hobart International campaign with her win as she defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States 6-2 6-1 in 57 minutes.
On Genie’s debut match in the Tasmanian capital, Genie scored her first win over Mattek-Sands after two consecutive losses.
Genie talks about Mattek-Sands:
“It was nice to get a win against her finally.She’s a great player and I was really aware that when she came to the net she is really solid, so I was just always trying to pass her.”
On her current form:
“I was feeling pretty solid out there. The foundation of my game is to be really aggressive, but I also want to have that balance with consistency and I think I did a good job of that today.”
Genie’s next opponent will be No.8 seed Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium. Genie has never played the 21-year-old before. This match will be played on Tuesday on Centre Court and the match is scheduled third.
On Tuesday’s match:
“I just want to continue my form and hopefully play well again tomorrow.”
