On the first day of main draw action, Genie participated in a press conference at the Hobart International.
Genie will play Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States in her first round match on Monday, and said:
“I think I’ve played her a couple of times and lost every time, so I’m looking forward to hopefully doing better than that. I know she can play a big game – she can have some big serves, some big forehands. I’m just looking forward to playing in Hobart for the first time and having a good match where I enjoy myself.”
On feeling any pressure:
“I’m not even seeded, so not at all. I’ve been surprised at how warm and welcoming everyone has been here, it’s been really nice to see. It makes me really happy to play here.”
Genie talks about how she feels and her love of tennis:
“I’m feeling good.I worked really hard in the offseason to try catch up a little bit and I’m just so happy to be back on the court. That’s the most important thing. I’m grateful and excited to be back on tour. I just love the feeling of playing tennis. When you’re forced not to do something you love, you realise how much you truly love it and for me, how much I missed it.”
